The City of Glen Cove has approved a private company to operate a ferry service to New York City.

The company, Hornblower, won approval in a narrow vote by the Glen Cove City Council.

The plan is to have a two-boat express service to East 34th Street and Wall Street in Manhattan. Each vessel will make at least four trips a day.

There are plans to possibly expand routes into the Bronx where riders could transfer to other New York City ferries.

The Bronx terminal is in Soundview, but another is planned to open at Ferry Point in 2021. Hornblower’s proposal included a letter of support from the general manager of Trump Golf Links at Ferry Point.

The goal is to launch the Glen Cove ferry in April.
