Pregnant and breastfeeding women in Connecticut should avoid drinking Pride Pure and Hy-Top Spring Water bottled before July 22. That’s according to anadvisory issued by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.
The department says those water brands tested for elevated levels of the chemicals, PFAS.
Nancy Sterling, a spokesperson for the bottling company Spring Hill Dairy Farm Inc., says they found out about the PFAS in June.
“We had a contract in place in less than 48 hours to put in the filtration system at a cost of about $100,000.”
Sterling says the company was under no obligation to invest in the special charcoal filter. That’s because Massachusetts has not set PFAS standards for bottled water.
She says the chemicals may have come from the bottling facilities. PFASare found in industrial soaps, chemical fire suppressants, and more.
Massachusetts officials have not finished testing Spring Hill bottled water since the company installed the filter. The FDA found the company to be in full compliance last week.
