Law Will Accelerate 5G Rollout Across Connecticut

Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont signed a law to expedite the deployment of 5G wireless technology.

Lamont told lawmakers and telecommunications executives at the signing ceremony in Stamford that the internet speeds enabled by 5G technology are critical for Connecticut’s economic feature.

“You don’t necessarily have to be in New York City or Boston five days a week. But if you have the highest speed internet in your small town, not just to mention a place like Stamford, it really will bring these towns to life as well.”

The law creates a faster process to allow private companies to install 5G infrastructure on state property. It also streamlines permits for such infrastructure in underground utility distribution facilities in cities and towns.

There’s already a process for installation on utility poles and wires.

Industry experts say 5G networks are 100 times faster and allow for 100 times more devices to be connected to a network.
