The 19-year-old brother of a victim of the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting announced he’ll run for State Senate in Connecticut.
J.T. Lewis posted a video to Twitter Monday announcing his candidacy.

Lewis’s brother Jesse was killed in the shooting. He says he was let down by politicians after the shooting.
“Our leaders are in it for themselves, to take pictures and feel an inflated sense of importance. I’m entering the fray because only with real leadership will Connecticut see the change we are so desperate for.”
Lewis and his family met with President Trump earlier this year for an event connected to school safety.
Lewis says he’s running in Connecticut’s 28th district. Republican Tony Hwang currently serves the district, which includes part of Newtown.
