Insurance rates are planned to increase in Connecticut. That’s according to new numbers released last week by the state Insurance Department.
The proposed average individual rate would increase nearly 8% compared to the average rate in 2019. That’s a slowdown from rate increases in previous years, but U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut says the rate is still too high.
Blumenthal introduced a bill this month that he says would bring down the price of prescription drugs and medical costs.
“A major obstacle here is the majority leader of the United States Senate, Mitch McConnell, who has denied us votes on measures that have bipartisan support – they’ll pass overwhelmingly because they’re the right thing to do for American patients and consumers on healthcare.”
The Insurance Department blames the increased rates on rising medical costs.
