Toll Proposal Stalls In Hartford

Connecticut House Speaker Joe Aresimowicz is uncertain if Governor Ned Lamont’s proposal for electronic highway tolls will be approved.

Tolls were endorsed by a legislative panel in March. Since then, the proposal has not received enough support from majority Democrats.

After a meeting at the State Capitol in June, there was no further progress with Republican state legislative leaders.

Electronic tolls have remained Lamont’s top priority since the legislative session started in January. He says tolling all vehicles on Interstates 95, 91 and 84, along with Route 15, would fund necessary highway repairs.

Aresimowicz says Lamont is working hard to explore all options.

No date has been set for a special legislative session.
