Community leaders in Waterbury, Connecticut, called for more supervision over the city’s beleaguered privately-owned hospital.
A California-based company called Prospect Medical Holdings bought hospitals in Waterbury and Manchester in 2016. The state put a set of accountability measures into place after the sale. Those rules are set to expire in October.
Rodney Wade, a pastor in Waterbury, says the rule should be extended for another year.
“Lives are at stake, right? And so certainly we believe there needs to be some accountability because we’re talking about people’s health.”
Health inspections have found several problems at the hospitals, including a patient’s suicide earlier this year. Waterbury Hospital is at risk of losing its Medicare accreditation.
Prospect Medical Holdings didn’t respond to a request for comment.
