David Denby

Feb. 28: David Denby, 2 p.m., The Study at Yale, 1157 Chapel Street, New Haven, Conn.

This event is sold out.

Bestselling author and New Yorker staff writer David Denby will discuss his new book about reading among modern-day teenagers. LIT UP: One Reporter. Three Schools. Twenty-Four Books that Can Change Lives, chronicles three 10th-grade English classes in three different kinds of high schools: Hillhouse High School, in inner-city New Haven, CT; Beacon Public School on New York’s Upper West Side; and Mamaroneck High School, in suburban Westchester. At Hillhouse, where many students struggle, Denby witnessed a fiery conversation about To Kill a Mockingbird deftly handled by an encouraging, but tough, teacher. An upbeat portrait of fine teachers, great books, and the students they inspire.
