There are eight fiscally stressed school districts on Long Island. That’s according to a report released Thursday by New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli.
Wyandanch Union Free School District in Suffolk County is among four districts statewide that have been in fiscal stress for three years.
Schools in Hempstead, Wantagh, Deer Park, Fishers Island, Copiague, New Suffolk and Roosevelt reported themselves as fiscally stressed.
The report was released as Governor Andrew Cuomo signed legislation that approves state monitors to help balance the books at Wyandanch and Hempstead schools.
Thirty-three fiscally stressed school districts statewide were on the report, a slight increase over the year before.
