A Southold, Long Island, man who allegedly took part in an international drug smuggling ring in the 1970s, pleaded guilty in federal court this week to drug charges.

72-year-old Jacob Moritz was on the run for three decades.

Moritz is one of four men who are accused of smuggling more than 1,200 tons of marijuana and hashish into the U.S. and Canada from international ports between 1971 and 1986.

Authorities arrested him in Montana last April.

Moritz pleaded guilty in federal court this week to one felony count of participating in a conspiracy to distribute and possession with intent to sell less than 50 kilograms of marijuana.

He faces up to five years in prison and a $50,000 fine. He also agreed to forfeit $2 million in assets.

Moritz is free on a $100,000 bond until he is sentenced in September.
