Video: Preserving Bridgeport’s early Black communities

Black history in Greater Bridgeport is preserved through historic sites, archives and community memory. Little Liberia, one of the region’s earliest free Black communities, and the legacy of Mary and Eliza Freeman remain central. Historians Jamie Pettit of the Bridgeport History Center and Jeffrey Fletcher of the Ruby and Calvin Fletcher African American History Museum say preserving artifacts and oral histories keeps these stories alive.
