Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory on Long Island unveiled a multimillion-dollar cancer research center this week after two years of renovations.
The Center for Therapeutics Research will study breast cancer, leukemia, lung cancer and other diseases by focusing on how tumors and illnesses affect the whole body.
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo says Long Island is on its way to becoming a major hub for scientific research.
“I believe it’s taking a lesson from what we learned from Stanford and Silicon Valley, you grow that academic institution, you grow that academic synergy, and that will spin off and create jobs.”
Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory employs more than a thousand people on Long Island.
New York State contributed $25 million to the renovation.
