Connecticut lawmakers chose leaders on key issues at the capitol in Hartford.

Connecticut’s incoming House Speaker has named a Guilford lawmaker to head the general assembly’s Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committee.

House Speaker-designate Matt Ritter of Hartford named State Representative Sean Scanlon to head the committee. It’s Ritter’s first committee chair announcement.

“One of the hard parts with the revenue committee is you have to wait. We never really know until April where we’re gonna be. And Sean is never too high, never too low. He’s a professional, he will ride it out," said Scanlon, who was elected to his fourth term last week.

Ritter said he will announce other committee chairs of the House Democratic caucus daily until around Thanksgiving.

Democrats won nearly two-thirds of the state’s house seats last week. They will also begin the next legislative session with a veto-proof majority in the Senate. The session begins January 6.
