Virus Claims Lives Of Nursing Home Residents In N.Y. Suburbs

Data released by the New York State Health Department show just how vulnerable nursing home residents are to COVID-19 — especially in areas hard hit by the coronavirus.

The deaths of nursing home residents make up nearly 14% of virus-related fatalities on Long Island, at 251 deaths, and nearly 16%, or 106 deaths, in Westchester County.

This is the first time the state has provided a breakdown of nursing home data.

Note: Due to privacy reasons, the state did not provide information from nursing homes with fewer than five deaths.

Anyone who has concerns about the wellbeing of a nursing home resident in New York can call the state’s long-term care ombudsman at 855-582-6769.
