Religious leaders on Long Island say upcoming festivals, celebrations and Sabbath gatherings should be suspended temporarily to preserve life and health during the pandemic.
Many churches, synagogues, mosques and temples are hosting services online to keep the virus from spreading.
Bishop Lionel Harvey from the First Baptist Cathedral of Westbury says they have found a way to celebrate Palm Sunday and keep social distance by delivering packages of wafers and wine.
“After we pray and we do our thing online, what we’ll do is be able to give those to them drive-through as well. And deliver them in baggies, put them in the mailboxes of those people that are sick and shut-in.”
Religious leaders also say family celebrations should be limited and to use technology to keep the virus from spreading.
