New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has announced measures to begin work on storm damage on Long Island.

Two storms in October caused severe erosion and large losses of sand along the shoreline west of Shinnecock Inlet.

Cuomo says critical repairs will “replenish the beach and strengthen protections against future flooding along the South Shore."

Work is expected to begin within the first week of February and be completed before the end of March.
