Nassau County is the second healthiest county in New York State and Suffolk County is the 16th, according to the annual County Health Rankings & Roadmaps.
The report by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the University of Wisconsin ranks the overall health outcome for New York’s 62 counties. Data collectors placed Nassau County as the second healthiest based on social and economic factors, clinical care and physical environment.
Anne Roubal, population health analyst at the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, says this year they focused on how housing affects people’s access to health care.
“We really looked at and started to work in the equity space and thinking about how, even within communities, certain racial and ethnic groups have better access to housing or health care and things like that just based on where they live.”
The foundation is currently working on its 10th anniversary report which will be released in March.
