Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont is expected to announce details of his revised $21 billion transportation plan Thursday. It is expected to identify possible locations for bridge-only tolls.
They include the Gold Star Memorial Bridge between Groton and New London, and the bridge across the Saugatuck River on I-95 between Norwalk and Westport. Others are on I-84 in Newtown, along Route 8 in Waterbury and on the Merritt Parkway in Norwalk.
It could cost up to $1 for passenger vehicles and $7 for heavy trucks.
Some Democratic legislative leaders are giving early, positive reviews of the plan.
Republicans did not support Lamont’s first plan because it included highway tolls.
Senate Minority Leader Len Fasano says he can’t predict if his caucus will support bridge-only tolls.
“It’s a little difficult for me to predict anything, but at least we know what bridges he is thinking of, and we know the costs.”
Lamont says having tolls would help pay for highway upgrades, improve commutes and boost the state’s economy.
