More than 200 people turned out to the Connecticut Port Authority’s public meeting in New London this week.
The Authority unveiled its plans to transform the city’s State Pier into a hub for the manufacturing of turbines for offshore wind farms.
The CPA also revealed how much money New London would get from the deal. But the city’s mayor, Mike Passero, says the figures were nothing new.
“That’s actually the original deal the city struck with Deepwater Wind, so there’s a lot of history behind that. The way it was announced today might have been a little misleading.”
Opponents to the deal say it will disrupt cargo and maritime businesses for the next ten years.
The CPA has been dogged by controversy in recent months for its lack of transparency and financial and personnel issues, which has led to an ongoing investigation by state auditors.
