The Hartford Foundation has donated $1 million to the effort to bring one of the 2020 presidential debates to the Connecticut capitol city.
Hartford is one of six finalists to host one of the four debates.
The Foundation says that the city and region would benefit from hosting the debate, and that the donation advances its goals.
The money would be used for civic engagement and other events around the debate.
Hartford last hosted a presidential debate in 1996, when President Bill Clinton faced off with Senator Bob Dole.
The Commission on Presidential Debates will announce the winning cities in October.
