Highway Rest Stops Restored To 24/7 Service In Connecticut

Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont reopened a state highway welcome center in Danbury on Monday. It’s one of seven state-operated highway rest areas that had been open for limited hours in previous years due to budget constraints.

Lamont says the rest stops are now open 24/7. He says that’s a good indication that tourists are welcome in Connecticut.

“This sends a message, loud and clear, we are open for business. We welcome you. We want you to come to Connecticut so you stay in Connecticut. Enjoy the amazing things we have to offer for a long weekend. And some of you will stay longer than that.”

A budget deficit in 2016 kept the highway rest areas in West and East Willington, Middletown, North Stonington, Southington and Wallingford operational for limited hours.

The state’s new budget signed by Lamont includes $1.2 million to allow the rest areas and the welcome center at Exit 2 on I-84 in Danbury to be staffed and open 24 hours a day.
