Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont signed Ethan’s Law on Thursday.
The bill is named for 15-year-old Ethan Song from Guilford who accidentally shot himself in the head with a handgun owned by a friend’s father.
Ethan’s father, Mike Song, was at the signing ceremony.
“You all knew Ethan. Or you knew of him. And what this does to a community. And that’s why we do everything we can to stand up and make sure this never ever happens again. Safe storage saves lives. Right? You got to say it with me. Safe storage saves lives. I don’t have to whip out a study. You can find them everywhere. It does.”
The law requires loaded and unloaded guns to be locked away in homes where there are minors.
It also includes a measure regulating the storage of guns in vehicles and bans homemade, unregistered guns.
