DOT Will Not Tear Down Maritime Aquarium To Make Room For New Walk Bridge

The Connecticut Department of Transportation says it will not tear down the Maritime Aquarium in Norwalk to make room for the construction of a new bridge.

The project aims to replace the century-old Walk Bridge that has malfunctioned several times over the past few years, causing delays in rail traffic.

Construction of the new Walk Bridge is not expected to begin until mid-2018, but there has been concern that the aquarium would be torn down in the process.

The current bridge separates the Maritime Aquarium and the IMAX Theater, which is also a part of the aquarium.

The Maritime Aquarium says that the only part being taken by the DOT would be the IMAX Theater. They say they would expect to be compensated for the loss of revenue from losing the theater and exhibits being moved for construction.

Payments have not been settled, but the aquarium has gone forward with planning a new theater and relocating exhibits.
