Students from Universidad Rafael Landivar in Guatemala joined students from Sacred Heart University last week to volunteer at the Hall Neighborhood House in Bridgeport.
Danielle Chiavola, a senior at Sacred Heart, says the two schools chose to work with elderly and child care services in Bridgeport.
“Usually they are understaffed. Most of the people who come here are volunteers. So being that it makes such a huge impact on the people in the community in Bridgeport and the surrounding areas, it only seemed fitting that we come here and bring the Guatemala students.”
The students from the two schools had jointly planned the service programs in both countries. Earlier in June they were in Guatemala to work on a public health information campaign.
The exchange was made possible by the 100,000 Strong in the Americas Fund.
