WSHU partners with the Car Talk Vehicle Donation Program to make donating your vehicle easy. In turn, your donation will help deliver the classical music, NPR News, and other programs you love—while giving you a tax deduction.

How to Donate a Vehicle to WSHU
- Start your WSHU vehicle donation by filling out the online donation form or by calling 877-215-0227.
- A licensed towing agent will contact you within 2-3 business days to schedule a pick up time at no cost to you.
- After your vehicle is sold, you’ll be emailed a tax receipt.

They lived in Ohio, and I live in Connecticut. I spent most of the last 2 1/2 years driving this car back and forth between Connecticut and Ohio, visiting and taking care of my parents through their illnesses and their passing. It's not that easy to fly between New Haven and Bowling Green, Ohio. This car got me back and forth when I needed it to get me there, while not taking the family car away from my wife at home. We live in the city in New Haven and don't really have the need for a second car. We're regular NPR and WSHU listeners and donating seemed like a simple and easy way to pay it forward.”

How to donate a vehicle in CT or NY?
Donating a car in Connecticut or New York is quick and easy! After you fill out the online donation form, a towing agent will contact you to arrange your free car pick up. Once your car is sold, you’ll receive a tax receipt and the proceeds from your WSHU car donation will be reinvested in the Connecticut and Long Island communities in the form of independent journalism. If you have a boat or vehicle other than a car to donate, please call 877-215-0227.
What types of vehicles are accepted?
We accept almost all running and non-functioning Connecticut and New York car donations. Trucks, motorcycles, boats, RVs, heavy equipment and other vehicles are accepted on a case-by-case basis. If you have questions about a vehicle you’d like to donate, give us a call at 877-215-0227.
Can I donate a car without a title in CT or NY?
In the state of Connecticut, most car donations require a clear title. If you don’t have a title, you can apply for a duplicate title. If your title has a lien holder listed, call our processing center at 877-215-0227 and our team can provide you with the information needed to get the lien released.
How do I fill out a title for a car in CT or NY?
Instructions on how to sign your Connecticut title will be emailed to you after you submit the donation form. Connecticut title transfer instructions can also be found online or by calling our processing center at 877-215-0227. Listeners on Long Island can also view New York title transfer instructions.
How much money will WSHU receive from my vehicle donation?
Our trusted processing partner, Advanced Remarketing Services, returns at least 70% of the gross proceeds from your vehicle donation to WSHU, the highest of any vehicle donation program!
What happens to vehicles donated to NPR?
The vehicles donated to WSHU are sold to support independent journalism in the Connecticut and Long Island regions. If older or junk vehicles are donated, we make sure they are sustainably recycled.
Will I receive a tax receipt for my vehicle donation?
Yes, we’ll email you a tax receipt after your vehicle is sold. The amount that is tax-deductible is equal to the sale price of your vehicle. If your vehicle is sold for less than $500, you can claim the fair market value of the vehicle up to $499. If your vehicle sells for more than $500 and you want to claim the full amount when itemizing taxes, an IRS Form 1098-C, Contributions of Motor Vehicles, Boats, and Airplanes will be mailed to you. This form will be your tax receipt for your vehicle donation. Please consult with your tax advisor on the best way to claim your WSHU vehicle donation tax deduction.
