Celebrate the opening of Bámigbóyè: A Master Sculptor of the Yorùbá Tradition with tours of the exhibition and both a recitation of the artist’s oríkì, or praise poem, as well as a performance by renowned Yorùbá master drummer Stephen Ayantoye Aniyikaiye. This exhibition is the first dedicated to the workshop of Nigerian artist Moshood Olusomo Bámigbóyè (ca. 1885–1975). Drawn from the collections of national and international museums, including the Yale University Art Gallery and the National Museum, Lagos, Nigeria, the masks and other sculptures on view present a complex portrait of the artist, who lived during a period of tremendous change in Nigeria.
