Join John Cilio--Connecticut Historian at the Seymour Library as he takes us on a journey back 175 years to the founding of a village that would become the town of Seymour--the state's one-hundred-forty-eighth town. We'll explore it's rapid growth from a village with the development of schools, churches, factories, mills, roads, banking and entrepreneurship along with the debate over its original name.

In this 50 minute presentation discover how the Civil War spurred the Soldiers' Bounty Fund, the rise of brass manufacturing, and the creation of the fire department after a series of fires in the 1880s. Learn how Seymour developed electricity, persevered through challenges like the Great White Hurricane of 1888, prohibition, world wars and the disaster of 1955.
