The Valley Music Series invites everyone to join or listen a performance of Handel's Messiah on April 2, 2023 at 3 PM at Valley Presbyterian Church, 21 West Whisconier Road, Brookfield, CT. Bring a score if you have one and plan to sing, or you can sign one out to borrow when you enter. The Messiah Sing is directed by Eric Dale Knapp, director of the Connecticut Choral Society. Linda Sweetman-Waters will be on the organ and soloists feature Diana McVey, soprano; Veronica Pollicino, mezzo; Nicholas Simpson, tenor; and Brad Baron, bass-baritone.

An annual event, Messiah was performed well into the 1770’s in support of the UK Foundling Hospital, which was established in 1739 by George II to care for the babies that would otherwise have been abandoned by desperate mothers, usually young and unmarried, who had nowhere else to turn. Handel conducted or attended every performance at the Foundling Hospital Chapel until his death in 1759. These concerts not only helped secure the Messiah's place in the nation's affections, but they also succeeded in raising the huge sum of £7,000 for the charity.
 
In the spirit of generosity, as demonstrated by Handel's lifelong support of the UK's first children's charity, we will donate 100% of the donations received at the door to the Refugee Resettlement Ministry at the Congregational Church of Brookfield, CT in support of refugees from Ukraine currently living in Brookfield.

MESSIAH SING is free to the public with a suggested donation at the door in support of Ukrainian Refugee Relief. Come and sing or listen to Handel’s Messiah, Parts II & III. Music will be available at the door to borrow or you may bring your personal score to sing from.
