“I Got Rhythm”… A George Gershwin Gala Cabaret

Saturday October 4th 2025
Morrill Hall, St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 6pm
111 Oenoke Ridge, New Canaan CT 06840

George Gershwin was a pioneering American composer whose music blended jazz, classical, and popular styles, becoming a defining voice of the Jazz Age. Gershwin’s ability to fuse the improvisational energy of jazz with formal classical structures was positively groundbreaking. His works are performed by symphony orchestras and jazz bands alike, and many are considered jazz standards. Signature compositions include Embraceable You (1928), Summer Time (1935) and I Got Rhythm (1930) and many more Broadway hits now central to the American songbook, will be performed by the Soloists and Choir of St. Mark’s, directed/accompanied by Ned Tipton, Director of Music Ministries, and Andrew Kimsey.

Morrill Hall: attendees will be seated at round tables with candles, food (a gourmet buffet) and drink (wine and non-alcoholic) will be served. This opening concert of the 2025/26-season of events presented by the Friends of Music at St. Mark’s is both a fund-raiser and a “fun” raiser. During the evening plans for the season will be announced. Individual tickets are $100.00. Seating is limited. (For ages 21 and over only, please)
