Fred Elser First Sunday Science: Ecosystem Interactions: Sharing the Shore
The beaches of Long Island Sound are more than just places for people–they’re home to birds, crabs, fish, and countless other creatures. In this talk, Naturalist Phin Anibal will explore how we can enjoy the LIS ecosystems while keeping animals safe and stress-free. You will learn why it is important not to harass or handle wildlife, how to recognize when an animal truly needs help, and what to do if you encounter an injured or distressed animal. Phin will guide you through practical steps for responding responsibly, including when to observe from a distance and when to contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitator. Our goal is simple: to help beachgoers become better neighbors to the wildlife that share our shores.
