As a part of our 100th Anniversary celebration, The Greenwich Choral Society is presenting a special screening of Antonia: A Portrait of the Woman (1974). The film tells the inspiring story of trailblazing conductor Antonia Brico, who was Greenwich Choral Society’s conductor during 1934 and 1935, and the first woman to conduct the New York Philharmonic. Co-directed by Judy Collins, this landmark feminist documentary was Oscar-nominated and restored in 2022. Join us for a screening of the film, followed by a panel discussion on women in music and leadership featuring:
• Beth Willer, Associate Professor and Director of Choral Studies at the Peabody Conservatory and Artistic Director of the Grammy-nominated “Lorelei Ensemble.”
• Suzanne Bona, professional flutist and host and executive producer of “Sunday Baroque,” a syndicated weekly radio show of Baroque and early music.
• Christine Howlett, Music Director of the Greenwich Choral Society, and Professor of Music on the George Sherman Dickinson Chair and Director of Choral Activities, Vassar College.
