Elegance and Etiquette: Social Customs of the Victorian Era

Elegance and Etiquette: Social Customs of the Victorian Era

The Seymour Library welcomes Christina Volpe, curator from the Barnes Museum of Southington.

The Barnes Museum was built in 1836 for Amon and Sylvia Barnes and was lived by the Barnes descendants for the next 137 years until it was bequeathed to the town of Southington. As the museum time period covers the American Victorian era Ms Volpe is very familiar with the customs and fashions of the time.

Ms. Volpe will bring Barnes family artifacts --including an authentic tea gown--to explore the formalities, fashions and social customs of the era. Attendees will hear stories, learn about Victorian tea time traditions and 19th century refinements.

Call the Library at 203-888-3903 for more information on this program. Registration is not necessary for this program.
