The 18th annual Darwin Day dinner will be offered on Saturday, Feb. 7, at 5:00 p.m. It will be an in-person event held at The Waters Edge at Giovanni’s, in Darien, CT.
The event features a cocktail hour, dinner, science quiz, and the presentation and fireside chat.
Our speaker is scientist and educator Dr. J. Peter Gogarten, Distinguished Professor of Molecular and Cell Biology at the University of Connecticut, Storrs. Dr. Gogarten will discuss the symbiotic relationships and genetic exchange between widely varying organisms, followed by a fireside chat with Kira Dineen, GenePool Media, and audience questions and answers.
Darwin Day is an international recognition of science and humanity held each year around Charles Darwin’s birthday, Feb. 12. It honors the discoveries and life of Darwin and the enormous benefits that scientific knowledge – acquired through human curiosity and ingenuity – has contributed to the advancement of our society. The Darwin Day event is a celebration of curiosity, science, and scientists.
The Connecticut event is hosted by the Humanists and Freethinkers of Fairfield County (HFFC, hffcct.org) and is supported by a variety of scientific, educational, and community groups in the region.
