At the March 25, 2024, meeting of Humanists and Freethinkers of Fairfield Country (HFFC), in collaboration with HFFC Science Readers group, Peer J Award Winner, Beata Mierzwa, PhD, will speak about how she translates scientific findings into illustrations using images to portray scientific concepts – such as how human cells divide – in intuitive ways.

Dr. Mierzwa is a postdoctoral researcher at UC San Diego SCRIPPS and Ludwig Cancer Research Institute, where she aims to advance the world’s understanding of cell division and improve cancer therapy. She is also Co-Chair of the Young Women in Biology in Southern California, where she inspires creative students to pursue careers in STEM. Beyond her academic career, Beata creates science-themed drawings and fashion.
