Charis Chamber Voices will present a program of choral works by British composers of the 19th and 20th centuries as well as the French masterpiece, Requiem Mass by Maurice Duruflé. Charis Artistic Director Jeremy Wiggins, Assistant Professor of Music and Coordinator of Choral Activities at Western Connecticut State University, will conduct. Two concerts are scheduled in area churches: on Saturday, March 12, 4:00 p.m. at Presbyterian Church of Mount Kisco, 605 Millwood Road, Mount Kisco, NY, and Sunday, March 13, 4:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 178 Oenoke Road, New Canaan, CT. Charis is an auditioned chorus of 40 men and women from Westchester County, NY, and Fairfield County, CT. Founded in 1994, the group is renowned for its diverse repertoire, unique blend of voices and captivating performances. The concerts are dedicated to the memory of Charis’s Artistic Director Emeritus, Arthur Sjögren (1941-2022). The program is organized around the seasonal theme of ascension. The first half features a collection of anthems for organ and chorus, including O Salutaris Hostia by Edward Elgar (1857-1934) and O Clap Your Hands and Antiphon by Ralph Vaughn-Williams (1872-1958). The second half of the program features the Requiem Mass by the French composer Maurice Duruflé (1902-1986), a work with elegant harmonic textures under which can be heard echoes of Gregorian chant, which the composer sang as a boy. A wine and hors d’oeuvres reception will follow each concert. Tickets are $25 ($20 for seniors and $15 for students).
