Deaths, Hospitalizations Decrease In Conn. And N.Y.

Here’s the latest on the coronavirus outbreak in the region:

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo says the state has “gone through the worst” and will now look to start reopening businesses in May.

He says upstate construction and manufacturing businesses where safe distancing can be practiced would be the first to open. He hopes the process could start on May 15th.

Fatalities in New York continue to decline. Still, 367 died on Saturday, 18 in nursing homes. There are 5,200 new cases in the state. On Long Island, there are 1,400 new cases. Westchester County saw 430 new cases. Hospitalizations also have decreased.

In Connecticut, Governor Ned Lamont says 62 people died on Sunday. There are 687 new cases. The number of hospitalizations dropped by 44.

Connecticut residents who are receiving unemployment benefits will see the extra $600 federal benefit starting Monday. Recipients do not need to fill out any additional paperwork.
