Lamont Creates Advisory Council To Strengthen Workforce Training

Office of Conn. Gov. Ned Lamont
Governor Ned Lamont announces the formation of the Governor’s Workforce Council during a news conference on the campus of Naugatuck Valley Community College in Waterbury on Tuesday.";

Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont has by executive order created a workforce development advisory council. He has also appointed a close friend to head the group.

Lamont’s 24-member Governor’s Workforce Council includes 13 CEOs. It is headed by Garrett Moran, who is a former president of a nonprofit workforce development company and was co-chair of Lamont’s transition team.

Lamont says the council will help him come up with a plan to fill tens of thousands of jobs anticipated in the state in the next few years.

“This is an amazing opportunity for a state that’s been stuck in an economic rut for an awful long time. And if you want to keep jobs here, you want to help companies grow and expand, this is the time to be making sure we are training people for those jobs that are out there.”

Lamont says the council will hold quarterly public meetings that he plans to attend. The first is scheduled for November 21.
