U.S. Representative Rosa DeLauro of Connecticut called for the U.S. Senate to pass the defense spending bills already passed by the House.

DeLauro spoke at a Teamsters hall in Stratford, where the Black Hawk helicopter is made by Sikorsky Aircraft. The version of the defense bill passed by the House includes more than $1 billion to order 73 Black Hawk helicopters.

“You know, Sikorsky and its suppliers are the lynchpins of our state’s advanced industrial base, the pillar of our national defense.”

DeLauro serves on the House Appropriations Committee. The House passed its version of the defense bill last month and plans to vote this week on a bill to authorize an additional $700 billion of defense spending.

Senate Appropriations Committee members haven’t scheduled meetings for their defense bills.
