Stamford Board of Representatives approves up to $65M for new school request

The Stamford Board of Representatives voted unanimously Wednesday night among the 27 members in attendance to appropriate and authorize bonding of up to $10M to purchase the Sacred Heart Academy, but lost three votes when it came to an up to $55M bond authorization request. That request still passed with a majority and Mayor David Martin assured the body's fiscal committee before the vote that the move only assists them in applying for a state grant and does not automatically mean the city will sell the bonds. Those casting no votes said they were uncomfortable with the amount as it would increase the city's potential debt limit well above usual levels.
