The Connecticut Board of Regents has appointed Terrence Cheng as the new president of the state university and college system.

Cheng has been the director of the University of Connecticut's Stamford campus since 2016 and also is an English professor there. He said he couldn’t be “more blessed and more honored” for his new position.

He will succeed Mark Ojakian who retired at the end of 2020.

Cheng will begin the new job on July 2. He will oversee the system’s more than 72,000 students at Connecticut's four state universities and 12 community colleges.
