Sen. Blumenthal Drafting Bill To Assist Child Care Facilities During Pandemic

U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut says day care facilities are struggling during the pandemic and is introducing legislation to keep them open.

He said social distancing regulations make it difficult for child care facilities to earn enough money to continue to operate.

“We face a looming catastrophe with more child care facilities closing," he said. "At the end of this year we’ll lose half or more of all the child care facilities in Connecticut unless we provide more assistance.”

Blumenthal said the economy will suffer if parents can’t get back to work due to child care shortages.

"Our workplaces will not be full again, unless parents are sure that their children will be taken care of at good places, quality places, where they will be safe.”

He is introducing legislation that would provide relief to child care businesses. He hopes it will be included in the next federal relief package.
