Connecticut’s Secretary of the State plans to mail absentee ballot applications to all 2 million registered voters by the end of the month.
Hartford’s Town and City Clerk said he’s busy calculating how many temp workers, office spaces and computers he will need in order to mail out a record number of absentee ballots.
Noel McGregor was appointed in March. He said the state will issue grants from the federal CARES act to help cover the election costs, but he isn’t sure when the money will arrive.
“We’re going to move forward regardless of when it comes in because we can’t wait for the funding to start the process,” McGregor said.
McGregor said Hartford residents are already coming to his office to try to cast a ballot because they fear their vote won’t make it through the mail. He reminds voters that ballots will not be ready until October 2.
Voters worried about mail delays can drop off completed applications for absentee ballots, or the ballots themselves, at secure boxes in front of their local town clerk’s office.
