Saxophonist Jimmy Greene Nominated For 2 Grammy Awards

jimmygreene.com

Jazz saxophonist Jimmy Greene has been nominated by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences for a Grammy Award for Best Jazz Instrumental Album of the year.

The album, Beautiful Life, is dedicated to the memory of Greene’s 6 year-old daughter Ana, who was one of 20 children killed during the 2012 shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut.

Greene told WSHU when he released the album in November of 2014 that working on the album helped give him some structure as he grappled with the overwhelming sense of devastation that came with losing his daughter.

“When there's not an accurate way to express my emotion or my struggle or my trauma, there's music," he said.

One piece featured on the album is the song Seventh Candle. Greene wrote the song during the time he and his family would have celebrated Ana’s seventh birthday.

Greene was also nominated for Best Arrangement, Instrument and Vocals for the track "When I Come Home."
