In his forty years at Yale, Duffy has combined his talents as a conductor and composer to weave the Yale Bands into the fabric of the New Haven Public Schools; regional, state, and national music education programs and conferences; and the world, through 19 international tours with the Yale Bands. The Grove Dictionary of American Music cites Duffy’s music: “His compositions have introduced a generation of school musicians to aleatory; the integration of spoken/sung words and ‘body rhythms’ with instrumental performance; and the pairing of music with political, social, historical, and scientific themes.”
