The Business of Fighting: a Human Face on World War II

The Business of Fighting: a Human Face on World War II
The Seymour Library welcomes Arnie Pritchard --the storytelling historian--a local from Yale--who will tell the story of his father's Army service in Europe during WWII and in the UNs' refugee program in postwar Europe.
Mr. Pritchard inherited the Army foot locker of his father Anton (Tony) Pritchard. The locker turned out to contain hundreds of letters and other family papers from Tony's service in the Army and in the United Nations' refugee program in postwar Europe.
From these letters Arnie has created a story.
The dramatized presentation of "This Business of Fighting" is focused on Tony's time in the front lines in Europe. It portrays a young man navigating a range of emotions, from raw fear to his role as a leader, and his exposure to a world that is both wiser and more brutal than he had known. Tony wonders how he will respond to his first combat, crawls through the freezing woods of the Ardennes under enemy fire, and see crowds of escaping forced laborers wandering the roads of Germany as the Nazi regime was collapsing.
