Hybrid meeting (in-person and virtual)
Humanists and Freethinkers of Fairfield County (HFFC) is holding its monthly meeting on National Religious Freedom Day, Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at the Wilton Quaker Meetinghouse. Senate Majority Leader Bob Duff will be the featured speaker. Senator Duff will be addressing the key priorities in the upcoming Connecticut legislative session.
Senator Bob Duff, a Norwalk resident, represents Connecticut’s 25th Senatorial District, which includes Norwalk and Darien. Re-elected to the State Senate in 2020, he was chosen by his Senate colleagues in 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2021 to serve as Senate Majority Leader. In this role, he co-manages the order of Senate business and serves as the majority party's leading spokesperson in floor debate.
National Religious Freedom Day commemorates the January 16, 1786, Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom, which led to the “establishment clause” in the U.S. Constitution’s First Amendment. (“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.”) In 1992 Congress designated January 16th as Religious Freedom Day, reaffirming its importance as a basic American freedom.
This meeting is free and open to all. Join us at the Wilton (Connecticut) Quaker Meetinghouse at 7:00 PM for the presentation and come to the social hour beforehand. Pizza and refreshments will be served from 6:15-7:00 PM. We will also be recording and broadcasting this meeting virtually via Zoom for anyone unable to join us in person.
