Pay Deductions For Conn. Paid Leave Program Begin In January

Employers can begin deducting contributions from employee wages for paid leave starting January 1, as part of the new program set up by the Connecticut Paid Leave Authority.

Under state law, paid leave benefits are available to employees who cannot work due to their own serious health condition or that of a family member.

Andrea Barton Reeves is the CEO of Connecticut Paid Leave Authority. She said that despite being in midst of a pandemic, the authority is willing to provide a safety net for those Connecticut employees who need paid leave.

"One of the ways that we can do that is to continue to keep the program on track so that come 2022, people will be able to get access to the paid leave benefits that they really need. We hear it all the time,” Barton Reeves said.

Employers are able to sign up for public and private options. Only employers with plans in place will be able to roll out paid leave programs in the New Year.
