The Ovation Guitar: A Connecticut Built Guitar & Music of the late 60's and early 70's
What cities come to mind when you think of the music scene of the late 60's and early 70's? Greenwich Village in NYC? Haight-Ashbury in San Franciso? New Hartford, Connecticut?
Make your way to the Milford Public Library on Wednesday, July 9 at 6:30pm as musician/historian Jim Lenn shares live music and the story of the Connecticut-built Ovation guitar, an important player in the foundation and flourishing of the defining sound of the singer/songwriter explosion of the 1960s and 70s.
Jim will perform the music that typifies the unique Ovation sound. This guitar filled a void in popular music created by the advancement of live sound systems, propelling this segment of the music industry to the forefront.
Jim Lenn grew up in Southern California and started playing music at the age of 8. He was actively involved in the South Bay music scene until his relocation to the East Coast in 2000. Jim played in the local folk/gospel group East of Nashville for six years and then joined the popular country group The Truckstop Troubadours for a two-year stint before starting the New England Ukulele Ensemble. Still performing locally as a solo performer, he is also the director and a founding member of the Kinetic Ukes ukulele performance ensemble based out of Simsbury.
