The Leatherman: A Western Connecticut Legend

The Leatherman: A Western Connecticut Legend

The Seymour Library welcomes the noted storyteller and former journalist Mike Allen. Mike Allen is the host of the podcast "Amazing Tales From Off and On Connecticut's Beaten Path"--which deals "amazing tales about people, places and events from Connecticut history".

Mr. Allen will recount the well-known and much-loved tale of Connecticut--The Leatherman. The Leatherman became a local legend and then a regional celebrity. The Leatherman in the late 1800s hiked the same 360-mile circuitous route through Connecticut and New York every 34 days like clockwork. Residents could predict when he would return to their town.

Wearing a self-made suit of leather, from head to toe, he conversed with no one and slept in caves. His identity is still unknown. But, people loved him. Hear the story of this gentle man that we know as "The Leatherman" at the Library from this well-known chronicler and raconteur.

This is an in-person talk with no registration needed. For more information, please call the Library at 203-888-3903.
