GHS Teen Art Club Presents "The Third Place" Exhibition at Guilford Art center

GHS Teen Art Club Presents "The Third Place" Exhibition at Guilford Art center

The Guilford High School Teen Art Club, in conjunction with Guilford Art Center, is presenting an exhibition on May 26 – June 11 highlighting the work and creativity of local teen artists. This exhibition, called The Third Place, will embrace the concept that a space that is not work, school, or home – but a third place – is instrumental in fostering innovation of thinking, creativity and establishing a sense of belonging. The exhibition will explore how the significance of the arts, and the communities that are built around them, provide young people with the ability to grow and to thrive. Local teen artists are contributing work in all mediums.

This exhibit was conceived and created by the creator of the newly formed Teen Art Club, GHS Junior Danielle Bargh. An avid student, lifelong art lover, and self-taught digital artist, Danielle works with GAC to organize the exhibit as part of her capstone project. The goal is to highlight the work and creativity of local teen artists (from all schools).

“As I've grown up in Guilford, I've met many interesting people. I am surrounded by peers who are more talented than I ever thought possible” says Bargh. “Because of that, I wanted to create a space where those creatives could flourish, promote their work, and get the credit they deserve. With this exhibition, I want to sponsor the creativity of Connecticut's youth and put a spotlight on these gifted students without critique or judgment. I am excited to make it happen!"

Danielle was mentored by GAC Program Assistant, Ashley Seneco. “I am so honored to have the opportunity to help Danielle bring this project to life and am so proud of the ambition and creativity she has shown in spearheading not only this exhibition, but the organization of a lively and accessible art club here at GAC. Having grown up in Guilford, physical ‘third places’ were always something I felt were lacking for high-school-aged people; I imagine that void has only been amplified in recent years with in-person spaces and activities being limited. It’s inspiring to see someone actively working to make that space for themselves and their peers, and Guilford Art Center is thrilled to be a part of it.”

The gallery at GAC is free, open 7 days a week and open to the community. For more information contact Guilford Art Center at www.guilfordartcenter.org or 203-453-5947.
